Cut Federal Pay 10% Now!

The time is here to demand that Congress and the Administration embrace a 10%, across the board, cut for federal workers pay including Congress and the Legislative branch. I would support  an exemption for military in theater only. This cost reduction would be substantial both in dollars saved and symbolically moving forward. The private sector has taken a larger cut over the past several years, and it is high time the public sector reflects this. The growing in-balance between private and public sector pay and job security is obviously unsustainable. It would certainly follow that state and local entities would take the cue and follow with their own cuts. No excuse about importance of job or quality of workers is acceptable in the current context. The American People must Rise up and demand accountability and equity from their government. This will not be easy, but in my mind, it is the first priority.

this from Forbes: About That Pay Cut For Federal Workers Brian S. Wesbury and Robert Stein03.09.10,
We stand behind the idea. Last week we wrote that one way the federal government could show it was serious about the budget deficit would be an across-the-board pay cut of 10% for all civilian federal workers. Although the savings would be only about $15 billion per year (roughly 1% of the budget deficit), the "cut" would send a clear signal to our creditors that policymakers were concerned about the deficit and were willing to take on sacred cows.It seems like we touched a nerve. No article we've ever written has generated as much response. Read More

The number of federal workers earning $150,000 or more a year has soared tenfold in the past five years and doubled since President Obama took office, a USA TODAY analysis finds. The fast-growing pay of federal employees has captured the attention of fiscally conservative Republicans who won control of the US House of Representatives last week's elections. Already, some lawmakers are planning to use the lame-duck session that starts Monday to challenge the president's plan to give a 1.4% across-the-board pay raise to 2.1 million federal workers.
FEDERAL WORKERS: Earning double their private counterparts

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, who will head the panel overseeing federal pay, says he wants a pay freeze and prefers a 10% pay cut. "It's stunning when you see what's happened to federal compensation," he says. "Every metric shows we're heading in the wrong direction." Read more at USA Today
